Bars Are Better

I was just researching some travel plans. And I considered my frequent flier programs. I was again struck at how measley the rewards are for this things. Consider, I fly to Charlotte regularly. It’s like 500 miles for that flight. The flight generally costs $300. To get a free flight from U.S. Air you have to fly 25,000 miles. So you have to spend $15,000 before you get a free $300 value trip. Umm… gee thanks guys!

Consider the buy back though, the thirst parlors form of a frequent flier program. A lot of people consider a buy back automatic but it’s not. It’s when you are a good tipper, rather attractive, or just a likely person. Prolly all three. Anyway, typically a buyback will be a bartender buying your 3rd or 4th drink. So let’s say it’s the 4th drink. You spend $15 on those drinks, and get your fourth one free. So that’s $15 for $5 value.

Now, if we divide everything by their lowest common demoninators and reduce our fractions that’s every 3 times I order a drink in a bar, I get a free drink. Every fifty times I take a flight, I get a free one. Conclusion: Bars are superior to airlines. Q.E.D.
